Leader Rabbit Control System- reliable and long lasting!
We took control of our rabbits and protected our valuable crops!
On Hillhouse, an upland farm of 1500 acres in the Scottish Borders which for many years had a horrendous rabbit problem, we have between 1993 and 1994 installed over 50 Leader Rabbit Drop Traps and erected 12,000 meters of rabbit netting. The rabbit trap system has been so effective that where previously we had quite a number of 30 acre fields suffering a third to a half total crop loss, we now see those same fields with only a few square yards of rabbit damage. Best of all, to date, our rabbit traps are still working as effectivley as the day we installed them.
"One memorable day we collected 870 rabbits!"
The Hillhouse Leader Rabbit Drop Traps initially caught an average of 10 rabbits each trap per week - one memorable day we trapped 870 rabbits! Our rabbit control has been so successful that there are areas on the farm with no rabbits at all and some rabbit traps only mopping up one or two now and again. There is a small rise in rabbit numbers in the summer months as a new crop of rabbits comes along (rabbits can have up to six litters a year) but these are quickly mopped up as the Leader Rabbit Trap will trap even small rabbits long before they have a chance to do any damage.
"Our initial investment in rabbit netting and traps was repaid in 12 months!"
The continual pressure on the rabbit population causes a progressive drop in numbers, and dramatic reduction in rabbit damage. With other systems of rabbit control - snaring, shooting, gassing, ferreting and cage trapping etc - as the numbers decline, it becomes harder to justify the time and cost involved in keeping it going. We have Gamekeepers and Pest Control Companies that believe the Leader Rabbit Drop Trap is the only sure way to deal with rabbit infestation, (and actively promote it!).
Once one gives up, the rabbit population quickly recovers and you are back to square one! The Leader Rabbit Drop Traps are easy to activate and keep trapping rabbits no matter how many there are, keeping a continual pressure on the population. In our own admittedly very bad situation, I have seen the initial investment in rabbit traps and rabbit netting repaid within twelve months by the reduction in rabbit damage, while the ongoing catching costs can be paid for by the sale of the rabbit carcasses. Even a moderatley infested farm, the payback time on the capital costs is under two years.
"The rabbit traps actually get more effective as time goes on..."
One of the many beauties of the Leader Rabbit Control System is the long term sustainability of the rabbit control. The rabbit traps actually get more effective as time goes on because rabbit runs, which can be seen quite easily in grass, start to go to the rabbit trap tunnels, rather than other holes in the fence. It is vital to patrol netting twice a weekly for the first month (and occasionally thereafter) to fill in any holes and encourage and maintain these new rabbit highways.
IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THESE RABBIT TRAPS INTO YOUR RABBIT PROOF FENCE, YOU WILL FOREVER MORE BE REPAIRING AND PATCHING THE NET AS THE RABBITS WILL SOON DIG UNDER OR THROUGH THE NET.
Finally, take heart from this and other success stories. YOU CAN CONQUER THE RABBITS - IT CAN BE DONE! Jim Sutherland
